There is something special about spending a night on the ocean. Between the soothing sounds of
the sea, the twinkling stars in the night sky and the distance from our busy lives on land it
truly is a magical feeling. The Whitsunday Islands are an awesome place with so much on offer,
and as the sun sets a whole new side of the islands emerges in the night. With a liveaboard
experience like Wings Sailing Charters Whitsundays you can experience all this and more first
hand!
A night aboard our vessels starts with a stunning sunset of course, be it over the ocean or a
beautiful island backdrop. The sunsets in the Whitsundays are without a doubt one of a kind, and
with so many possible vantage points it’s always new and fresh. When on tour we typically see the
sunset whilst onboard the vessel, either during a relaxing sunset sail or from our night time
anchorage in a calm sheltered bay. Weather permitting you may even get the chance to watch the
sun sink below the horizon from one of the many secluded island beaches. Don’t stress however as
no matter which way you take in the show you’ll always have the chance for a cold beverage in
hand and some tasty snacks from our talented crew!
Once the sun dips over the horizon the night truly begins. You see it’s around this time that our
guests start really getting to know each other. Relaxing together before dinner there is chatter
between both passengers and crew about the day’s events, travel plans and of course hilarious
stories from travels so far. Onboard there are also plenty of games to keep you entertained from
simple playing cards for whichever game you might choose, through to trivia and team games and
even classic board games like monopoly. So even though the day has finished the night rolls on.
The crew soon call out for a quick break in the games as it’s time for a delicious dinner! Again
the talented hosts have been working hard to produce a fantastic feast of a dinner. On offer is a
range of delicious food, starting with a salad and seasoned vegetables followed with a warm main
course to fill your belly after a busy day onboard. The food onboard is not only delicious but we
also ensure there is something for everyone, even catering for those with special diets including
vegetarians, vegans and those with food allergies. Be sure to let us know if you have any dietary
requirements at the time of booking and we will ensure you don’t miss a thing! Best of all, once
you have had your fill of the evening meal there is no dishes to do! Our amazing crew will take
care of the clean up so you can relax and enjoy your time onboard.
After dinner is when the evening show kicks off in the water, as the wildlife is drawn to the underwater lights below the back deck. Here in the blue lights we never know what might appear, from baitfish, dolphins and sharks to turtle hatchlings, sea snakes and squid. One thing you can be sure of, the excited squeals of the guests will let you know when the wildlife arrive. Often the crew themselves are just as excited to see what has appeared, racing outside to be sure they don’t miss any of the excitement. It also gives the crew a great opportunity to talk about the sea creatures that have arrived and teach everyone a little bit about the wildlife in our area.
Once you’ve had time for your dinner to rest the marvellous crew will gather you one last time for the night. That’s it, it’s dessert time! The crew will offer you a tasty little sweet treat to nibble whilst we have a chat about the day and our travels. They will also let you know the plans for the days ahead and show you photographs of the islands, their wildlife and of course your adventures onboard. If there are any questions you are itching to ask this is also a great opportunity to chat to the very knowledgeable crew and find those answers.
After desert it’s time to relax once more. By now the show in the sky is in full swing, and the stargazing at the Whitsundays is exceptional. With minimal light pollution due to the remote location of the islands, you can see the stars in a way many people have never seen them before. One of the prime locations for stargazing onboard is of course the front deck with its spacious and comfortable bow nets. Often passengers gather on the foredeck resting in the bow nets and pointing out constellations, comparing names and meanings from their home countries. What an incredible way to unwind from a day full of adventure before falling asleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean!
‘Sleep aboard, wake up in paradise’.
