Sailing and Snorkelling Around the Whitsunday Islands
Wings 2 Day 2 Night tour will take you sailing and snorkelling around the Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef. Splash around on South Whitehaven Beach or Chalkies Beach and take a short walk through the rainforest to Hill Inlet lookout for a stunning view over the shifting sands. A social tour with up to 31 guests on board and three helpful, enthusiastic crew. Your friendly, knowledgable crew will make your sail and snorkel adventure a trip of a lifetime. With air conditioned shared facilities you can choose either single or double beds. Both vessels are fully air conditioned with plenty of shaded areas on the back deck. Beat the heat on a Wings catamaran.
DAY ONE: DEPART AIRLIE BEACH AT 13:00
You will be greeted by our Wings crew and invited on board where a light lunch will be served. Once you've been orientated around the vessel relax and take in the scenery while you sail to your first snorkel location. As you head to one of the many fringing reefs of the Whitsunday Islands you will sail across the Whitsunday Passage and pass the Mole group of islands before arriving at Hook or Border Island.
Snorkel sites are of chosen by the prevailing wind and tide conditions on the day. Generally the Whitsunday's has a nice south east trade wind blowing or an easy north east sea breeze. In each case we choose sites that are protected from the prevailing winds on the day. Having longer time out on the water gives the crew more options when tides are moving, they don't have to snorkel at a set time. Spending 2 days and 2 nights sailing the Whitsunday Islands our crew can plan the snorkelling times around the slack or slower moving times of the tide. A definite benefit of a longer Whitsunday tour.
Sites protected from the prevailing south east trades:
Blue Pearl Bay, Stonehaven Bay, Caves Cove, False Nara, Chalkies Beach, Cateran Bay, The log pile, Mantaray Bay, Luncheon Bay, Maureen's Cove, Butterfly Bay.
Sites protected from the north east sea breeze:
Hook passage and coral gardens, Pitt stop Bay, Mackeral Bay north and south, Chance Bay, Saba Bay, Ravens Cove... and many more.
With so many snorkelling locations... 2 days is only just enough!
Once snorkelling has finished it is back on board for a cold beverage and some sunset snacks whilst you cruise to your overnight anchorage off South Whitehaven Beach or Chalkies Beach (weather permitting). Make sure to get amongst our onboard photos or take your own of the stunning Whitsunday sunsets. After dinner the crew will invite you to view an eco slide show, this shows you of some of the spectacular photos of what you may see and observe underwater including pictures that have been taken whilst snorkelling that day. Look out after dark for shooting stars or sit on the back deck and watch the small fish, giant trevally and maybe even a few dolphins swim in and out of our underwater blue lights. The ocean comes to life at night in the blue lights.
DAY TWO: WHITEHAVEN BEACH
"Sleep aboard , Wake up in paradise" …wake up to the sunrise and see Whitehaven beach without a footprint on it. This experience is only truly felt when you sleep onboard.
After breakfast you will be taken to the magnificent South Whitehaven Beach for a morning swim where you will be able to explore the beautiful white silica sands of Whitehaven or if its to early just sit on the deck and take in the peaceful beauty of the early morning at South Whitehaven beach. Later on you will be taken on a short bush walk to the lookout at Hill Inlet where you will be able to overlook the entire beach and and view it n its finest glory. This is a picturesque setting and great for photo opportunities. After the lookout walk down to Betty's Beach which is the Northern end of Whitehaven Beach. Enjoy some extended time on Whitehaven Beach, lookout out for some blue spotted lagoon rays or newborn marine life.
After lunch we are headed to the best snorkelling locations. Visit two more locations on Hook Island such as Mantaray Bay, Luncheon Bay or Langford Island for a snorkel with the turtles and a sunset on the sand.
If possible another bush walk in the afternoon can finish the day off nicely. In addition to the Hill Inlet lookout walk the Whitsunday's now has walks on Hook Island, Cateran Island, Whitsunday Island Langford Island and Haslewood Island ... these tracks are generally considered moderate as walking tracks go with steps and minor gradients to negotiate. Watching the sunset on Langford spit with a few friends and a couple of drinks is the perfect way to finish off a great day.
The evening slide show is great fun to watch onboard as our host would have taken some amazing photos of guests at the beach and our crew would have captured snorkelling amongst the beautiful marine life. Summarising a fun packed day in the Whitsundays.
DAY 3: FINAL MORNING SNORKEL AND SAIL BACK TO AIRLIE BEACH ARRIVING AT 11:00
After breakfast it's the final splash at the last snorkel site. Do some fish feeding at Blue Pearl Bay. It's your last chance to see the amazing under water world of the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef before we make the journey back to Airlie Beach for arrival of 11AM.
Post tour drinks and meal at Beaches Backpackers and party on with awesome live entertainment at Paddy Shenanigans - So don't leave town as soon as the boat returns or you will miss out!!
Our crew are very passionate about marine life and showing guests the underwater world, they will endeavour to take you to the best locations the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef have to offer. Visit both locations on Whitehaven Beach and all the best snorkel locations. An overnight live aboard tour that is best completed on our modern, fast, air conditioned sailing catamarans.
You just can't do the Whitsunday's in a day… make the time and do a Wings Whitsunday Sailing Tour.
