Chance Bay, close to Whitehaven Beach, is one of our favourite spots to anchor on Whitsunday Island.
Conformed by a double bay and with two beautiful sand beaches, Chance Bay is home to green, flatback and hawksbill sea turtles. We love to make a well-deserved stop here with our Private Charters guests, where they can switch off from their busy schedules, and re-connect with nature while they paddle on our clear bottom kayaks around the bays.
Chance Bay anchorage may provide some protection in moderate southeast to east winds, and it can be risky choosing to spend the night here, especially during the trade winds season (April to August/September) when strong southerlies may come roaring in during the night.
The secluded beach of Chance Bay is a great spot to visit during the Northerly winds and escape the crowds of Whitehaven Beach, which is located just a short walk across the headland.
Fishing is allowed and snorkelling may be good along the fringing reef and around the little islet on the west. Snorkelling gear and stinger suits are available on all our private charters in the Whitsundays.

What makes Chance Bay so popular in the Whitsundays is the amazing track that starts on the little beach and finishes on Whitehaven Beach.
The 7.2km return walk leads directly to the most famous attraction of the area and is a great family activity. Branching off the Solway circuit track, the hike is part of the Ngaro Sea Trial.
It is considered an easy walk and a mix of eucalypt, hoop pine and grass tree forest provides shade along most of the trial.
