Stretching 7 kilometres along Whitsunday Island, Whitehaven Beach is a must see destination in
Australia. With its 98% pure silica sand, and crystal turquoise waters, you will be reaching for
your camera before you think. Be careful though, as the very fine sand has a habit of finding its
way into the tiniest of spaces, including electronic equipment such as cameras and phones. Don’t
be discouraged however, the silica sand also has some very special properties making it a great
jewellery polisher, teeth cleaner, and won’t burn your feet even on the hottest of North
Queensland days.
Being a National Park, Whitehaven Beach is beautifully conserved and looked after which is why it
remains one of the world’s top beaches today. No dogs are allowed, smoking is prohibited, and a
permit is required to visit the famous beach.
Just a short bush walk from the beach, will lead you to the viewing platform which looks out over
the stunning swirling sands of Hill Inlet. The motion of the incoming and outgoing tides,
combined with the white silica sands creates a breathtaking picturesque and unique view, perfect
for those postcard shots.
We take you up to the lookout, where you can get snap happy capturing the amazing views. We then go down to the beach where you are free to soak up the sun, capture once in a lifetime photos, kick a ball around or wander over to the shallow area where juvenile stingrays and reef sharks are chilling out. Take part in our fun session of perspective/group photography, which we all have a giggle at during the evenings slideshow back on board the boat.
Whitehaven Beach’s trophy cabinet is rather impressive! Not only the 5th best beach in the world, but also boasting, Queensland's Friendliest Beach, Queensland's Cleanest Beach and Australian winner of the Resource Recover Award to name a few.
